Costumes, Candy, and Halloween

Happy Halloween Everyone!!! I hope you all have exciting plans or did some fun stuff this weekend. I have no plans this Halloween except for going home after work and watching a movie with some friends. Since it is Halloween I decided to share some pictures of my roommate, Sheryl's lovely costume for a party she went to on Friday night. She went as Waldo's girlfriend, from Where's Waldo. Doesn't she look adorable!!! Also I thought it would be great to share a photo of my neighbors front yard, they are really into decorating for the holiday. Hope you all have a great day today and don't eat to much candy!!!

Remembering Warmth

I took these pictures a few weeks ago before the weather drastically changed. Especially after the surprise snow that came yesterday, all I wanted to do was remember the days when all I needed was a cardigan to go out. Even though I love the cooler temps, but I am not ready for winter.

Comfort and Warmth

Yesterday was a cold and rainy day here in the city and all I wanted was a nice bowl of soup when I got home from work. Actually what I wanted was to call out sick from work and stay home and watch movies all day, but that would be wrong of me to do. So instead I just settled for some yummy soup.

After taking a trip to the farmers market earlier in the week I got a bag of the last remaining summer tomatoes. I knew I wanted to make tomato soup, but I wanted it to be different then just my old recipe. After scouring online, I saw a recipe on one of my favorite food blogger's, Smitten Kitchen.

A bowl of roasted tomato soup with cheesy toasted bread was the perfect ending to a long, wet, cold day.

Roasted Tomato Soup:

3 pounds plum tomatoes, halved lengthwise
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 unpeeled garlic cloves
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
1/4 teaspoon (or more to taste) dried crushed red pepper
4 cups of vegetable stock

Preheat oven to 400°F. Wrap garlic cloves in a tight foil packet. Place tomatoes, cut side up, on large baking sheet. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. Drizzle tomatoes with olive oil. Add foil packet of garlic to tray. Roast until tomatoes are brown and tender (garlic will be very tender), about 1 hour. Cool slightly.
Unwrap garlic packet and peel cloves. Transfer cloves, tomatoes and any accumulated juices to a blender or food processor and pulse machine on and off until tomatoes are a chunky puree. Transfer tomatoes to medium pot and add thyme, crushed red pepper and stock and bring to a boil Reduce heat to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 25 minutes. Remove from heat and adjust seasonings to taste.

Picture Day

The hardest part of blogging for me, has been the issue of taking pictures. I take all of my own pictures, unless I'm back home visiting my parents then I have one of them take my pictures for me. But living in NY walking around with my camera and stopping in the middle of a random street that I like, so that I can take a picture still makes me really uncomfortable. That's why I tend to take some many of my pictures on my roof, cause there's no one watching me.  Lately I've decided to step out of my comfort zone and take pictures in places that I really like. Sorry for my mini rant, just wanted to share some feelings with everyone.

Sunshine and Clouds

I took these pictures a few weeks ago as the weather started to change from oppressive heat to cool breezes. On this day it was still warm enough to go out without a sweater but cool enough for tights and very cloudy. When I wake up to days like this I always want to stay indoors and curl in my bed and watch tv. Unfortunately I didn't have that option on this day, so I decided to brighten up my outfit. I always feel so much better when I wear yellow.

I know that yellow isn't a favorite for a lot of people, but I love wearing yellow in various shades. From a super bright sunshine yellow to a lovely mustard. Just wanted to add I am so excited about wearing tights again. It's one of my favorite things about fall!

San Francisco: Part 2

These are pictures I took on my last day in San Francisco while spending the day running around the city and eating with my cousin. We started out with having lunch at Tartine and it was amazing. My turkey sandwich with broccoli pesto still makes me hungry when I think about it. Also my cousin pastrami was also just as good. After an amazing lunch we walked around the Mission and took some amazing pictures of the art work displayed on the buildings.

After spending all afternoon walking around the day ended with some delicious Japanese food. After dinner my cousin, his roommate and I grabbed a few donuts at Bob's Donut Shop and went back to their place to watch a few episodes of Mad Men. I ate a lo while in San Francisco and did a lot of walking. I can't wait till my next trip back, there is still so much I want to do and see.

San Francisco: Part 1

A few weeks ago I went to San Francisco for the first time. I've been wanting to go for years and finally decided to take the trip past LA and head north. The minute I crossed the bridge into San Francisco, I knew I would love this city.

Being a tourist, I had to do all the touristy things. I visited Chinatown, the pier, the ferry building and ate a lot. My breakfast the second day I was there was a delicious raspberry mouse cake from Miette. I was on vacation, so cake for breakfast is acceptable and it tasted amazing with a cup of iced coffee.

The walking was difficult with all the hills so I decided to take a trolley ride around and become a super tourist. There are so many pictures I want to share with you and that's why this is just part one of my trip. Have a great weekend!

Beach and Burgers

The day I was leaving San Simeon, CA I decided to take a few outfit shots and beach shots before heading north to San Francisco. All the drivers on the road, might have thought I was some kind of freak constantly pulling the car over to take pictures. I couldn't help myself.

Once I got to San Francisco, the first thing I did was find a place to eat. Well actually that was the second thing, I had to first check into my hotel. Once that once done I walked around and found myself in front of Super Duper Burger. I'm up for a burger at anytime and this place looked good enough. Well the burger wasn't In-N-Out or Shake Shack but it was pretty good and so were the home made pickles.
